Therapeutic Home Environments
Our Research is Dayhouse Studio’s hub for peer-reviewed work on the Therapeutic Home Environment and Healthy Dwelling™ — how interior design relates to wellbeing at home. Findings are complementary to medical care, not a substitute. Based in Salt Lake City, we publish and apply this research for homes and workplaces.
What is the Therapeutic Home Environment?
The Therapeutic Home Environment is Dayhouse Studio’s peer-reviewed framing for how living spaces relate to wellbeing. An impact of the home environment on the patient’s health has been overlooked and underutilized in medicine and healthcare. Our peer-reviewed article Therapeutic Home Environment (2026) examines how biophilic interior design relates to medicine and healthcare as educational context. Related work on Home as therapeutic target (2025) develops that home-environment framing further. Findings are complementary to medical care, not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment.
A new paradigm for healthcare, in this research sense, means giving the home environment a clearer role alongside clinical care—without claiming the home replaces clinicians. Dayhouse Studio publishes and applies that peer-reviewed work for homes and workplaces from Salt Lake City.
Bridging Interior Design and Health
How does Healthy Dwelling™ bridge design and health?
Healthy Dwelling™ is Dayhouse Studio’s peer-reviewed approach to bridging interior design and health. For people living with migraine, depression, chronic pain, dementia, burnout, or other chronic conditions, the home and workplace are everyday environments—not treatment settings. Learn more from our peer-reviewed article Healthy Dwelling (2022). Related Frontiers work on Biophilic design & neuroarchitecture (2025) extends that bridge. These papers are educational context complementary to medical care, not a substitute for clinical care.
A new paradigm for design, in this research sense, means using interior-design choices—daylight, materials, layout, and related biophilic patterns already named in Dayhouse work—to support wellbeing at home while staying complementary to medical care. Together, the Therapeutic Home Environment and Healthy Dwelling™ articles are peer-reviewed foundations Our Research collects so homeowners and workplace teams can read the source papers.
Which peer-reviewed papers has Dayhouse published?
Dayhouse Studio’s peer-reviewed papers (same four linked from About). Each opens in a new tab. Findings are complementary to medical care, not a substitute:
On this page, Dayhouse Living magazine Issues #1 (Introduction to Biophilic Design) and #2 (Biophilic Design for Mental Health) offer related reading already published by the studio. Across the papers and magazine issues, Dayhouse Studio keeps Therapeutic Home Environment and Healthy Dwelling™ language for research and design education and applies the work in Salt Lake City homes and workplaces. Nothing here treats migraine, depression, chronic pain, dementia, burnout, or other conditions.
